Winterville Baptist Church Leadership
Winterville Baptist Church is blessed to have a leadership team who are truly dedicated to Christ and accomplishing His will. Following are brief bio's of our leadership team and their qualifications for ministry.
Our pastor, Grant Carter, who grew up in Fayetteville, NC, began serving our congregation in January 2005.He has been a pastor since 1979, serving two congregations in Virginia prior to beginning his ministry in Winterville.
His passions in ministry include preaching and teaching the gospel, worship leadership, facilitating small groups, and guiding God’s people to center their congregational and personal lives around making disciples of Jesus – people who are increasingly become like their Lord.He longs for the day when all those in the church are giving first priority to following Jesus and making disciples. He believes God’s intention is that his church be the living body of Jesus, His Presence, in their community and world.
Grant holds a B.A. in Religion from Methodist College (Fayetteville, NC, 1977) and a Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (Wake Forest, NC, 1980).He has maintained a strong interest in reading and studying in Christian theology throughout his ministry.
He and his wife, Mary, have three grown children, Britt (wife Genna), Laura (husband Charles), and Beth (husband Patrick) and ten grandchildren. He often says, based on what he knows now, he would have had the grandkids first, but that’s kind of hard to do.He’s glad and grateful to God to have married his high school sweetheart (in 1974) who is his companion, best friend and lover.
He is still amazed that God called him to Christian ministry and is blown away by how wonderfully good and generous the heavenly Father is.
Grant will be retiring from full-time ministry and as pastor of WBC August 26, 2018.
Boris Barrett Jr.
Throughout his school years Boris was heavily involved in band as well as orchestra, participating in numerous clubs and ensembles, where his love for music began to blossom and grow. He attended Pitt Community College from 2009-2013, where he received an Associate’s degree in Human Services. He is currently enrolled in Covenant Theological Seminary (since 2014), where he is working towards his Bachelor’s in Ministry. He answered the call to ministry in June of 2013, where he preached his initial sermon at his home church, Mount Calvary FWB Church in Greenville, NC. He served faithfully in his church’s youth ministry since his younger years, participating in the dance/mime ministry, the youth choir, serving as a junior deacon, serving as an armor bearer, and also volunteering in vacation bible school.
He was blessed to receive the opportunity to serve as the Youth Pastor at Mount Calvary FWB Church from July of 2014 to February of 2016 where he worked very diligently to serve the youth, young adults, and college students, while modeling and displaying the theme, “when it comes to living for Christ, age ain't nothing but a number”.
In March of 2016, God called him to the small town of Winterville, NC to serve as the Youth Pastor at Winterville Baptist Church, which he describes as an “awesome honor, privilege and opportunity to serve the next generation of believers”.
He has been married to his high school sweetheart and best friend, Charlene for 5 years, and they have one daughter, Cadence. He resides in Greenville, NC with his family, where they have lived for the past two years. Minister Barrett loves God, his family, and he loves God’s people, and he lives his life to be a daily representation of what God can and will do.
